“Spaced Repetition” Is How Life Helps You Heal And Grow

I recently started learning Spanish, listening to a Pimsleur language tape when I’m driving. The tap follows a learning methodology called “spaced repetition”, which is supposedly a fastest and most efficient way to learn a foreign language. You’re asked to repeat the same Spanish phrases out loud, again and again. And every once in a while, you’re asked to remember the phrase and say the words out loud at timed intervals.

The problem? It was so boring!

By the 12th time I was asked to remember and say “Cómo estás”, I was like: what’s your problem, tape? I just said that back to you 3 seconds ago. I remember it already! I felt like I was being asked to reviewing the same basic stuff over and over, and not making much “new progress”.

Why am I telling you this?

Because life uses this exact same “spaced repetition” method to help you heal your past and evolve in your consciousness. Your life is a well-designed program to help you get the most out of this human journey, and grow as much as possible in the limited time you have here. But most of the time it doesn’t feel like you’re making any progress at all. If anything, you feel like you’re stuck on the same patterns and dealing with the same shit over and over.

Except, you are not.

I’m only on lesson 7 of my Pimsleur tapes and when I look back, I’m surprised how much Spanish I had actually picked up, despite constantly feeling of lack of progress.

Every time life presents you with people and situations that trigger the existing patterns of your ego, it’s a new opportunity to review your truth, deepen your connection with your higher self, and respond in a way that helps anchor the light of consciousness on this planet. Every spaced repetition is advancing your mission as an empathic badass in a world that needs you to shine your light bravely.
